At Archer Hospitality, sustainability is central to the way we design, manufacture, and deliver furniture. We believe great design shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet — that’s why we carefully consider the materials we source, the processes we use, and the partners we work with to create furniture that lasts while minimising our environmental footprint.
We purposefully design every piece to withstand high-use environments and stand the test of time. By prioritising durable materials and quality craftsmanship, we reduce the need for replacement, helping our clients make sustainable, long-term investments.
The materials we choose make a difference.
We source timber and timber-based products from accredited, sustainable suppliers wherever possible.
Where suitable, we incorporate renewable, recycled, and repurposed materials into our designs.
Upholstery fabrics and foams are carefully selected for durability and compliance with NZ fire and safety regulations, with eco-certified options available on request.
We’re committed to minimising waste at every stage of production:
Recycling offcuts like fabric, foam, and timber wherever possible
Reusing cardboard packaging before sending it to Airlyte to be repurposed into animal bedding and garden mulch
Partnering with Dunlop Foams to ensure all foam waste is 100% recyclable
Using PRIMEPAC products that save more than 180 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill every year
Working with Enviro NZ and Kaipara Refuse to recycle solvents, plastics, and other byproducts responsibly
We are continually finding ways to reduce our energy footprint:
Planning delivery schedules carefully to optimise routes and reduce carbon emissions
Transitioning our factory and warehouse to low-energy LED lighting
Exploring opportunities to integrate more efficient technologies into our operations
Sustainability isn’t just environmental — it’s social too.
We work with suppliers who uphold fair wages and safe working conditions.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for modern slavery and work proactively to ensure ethical practices across our supply chain.
We foster long-term partnerships with like-minded suppliers who share our values of integrity, accountability, and respect.
We’re continually exploring ways to repurpose furniture at the end of its lifecycle, giving materials a second life wherever possible. By designing products for durability, recyclability, and repairability, we’re helping to promote a circular economy in the furniture industry.
We’re proud to work with industry-leading partners who share our commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future:
Airlyte — repurposes our leftover cardboard into animal bedding and mulch
PRIMEPAC — recycles PE products, saving over 180 tonnes of plastic annually
Enviro NZ — manages lacquer and solvent recycling
Kaipara Refuse — provides ongoing recycling for plastics and waste materials
Dunlop Foams — ensures foam waste is 100% recyclable and reused in carpet underlay manufacturing
By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern, sustainable practices, we’re creating furniture that lasts longer, uses fewer resources, and supports healthier spaces. Sustainability is not a checkbox for us — it’s an ongoing promise to our clients, our people, and the planet.
Environmental Policy Statement:
At Archer Hospitality we work hard in all departments to minimise our environmental impact.
We do our part by endeavouring that all our timber and timber based materials originate from verifiable accredited suppliers with sustainable, renewable forestry plans.
We are committed to recycling where possible to ensure our precious natural resources are available for future generations. Some examples of our efforts to preserve the environment are:
1. Cardboard waste is donated to a local business who shreds it & sells it as pet/cat litter.
2. Scrap & leftover fabric is used as linings inside our chairs which means we have very little waste fabric.
3. We buy our Dunlop foam cut-to-order which means the foam manufacturers can convert any waste foam into chip for using inside cushions etc.
4. Our waste lacquer products are re-processed through an on-site recycling machine, the liquid is then re-used as cleaning agent & the solid waste is sent to Envirowaste.
5. We have a program where our plastic waste is separated into bags & sent to Kaipara Refuse for processing which ensures the plastic is kept out of landfills
6. With our factory lighting, all our high-energy consuming old halogen lights has been phased out & replaced with low-energy LED light systems.
7. Coming from a rural community where the founding members of our business were originally farmers & shearers, we love using wool fabrics & encourage our clients to use wool as much as possible! It's encouraging to see the growth of groups such as 'The Campaign for Wool' and you can read more about it here: https://www.nzwool.co.nz
Another service we offer to our clients is reupholstery & furniture refurbishment of old furniture, although this needs to be a balanced decision, as new products are produced with more enviro-friendly materials and production methods.
We encourage our clients to send old furniture to charities where they can find homes for it rather than dumping their old furniture in landfills.
By supporting local New Zealand manufacturers, our customers have the peace of mind of doing their part to reduce their own company's carbon footprint
